Dr. Garand is an Instructor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery. Dr. Garand is a biochemist/molecular biologist by training with several postdoctoral experiences in immunology. He is interested in translational research focused on improving prevention and treatments for immunopathology and infectious diseases in neonates and young infants. His current research is on evaluating immune responses in neonates following surgery, identifying factors that contribute to the pathogenesis of congenital heart disease, and defining specific mechanisms of action. In his free time, he enjoys hiking with his dog and cat and playing chess.
